[Silver Jewelry Maintenance] 925 sterling silver turns black? 5 minutes of cleaning to restore its shiny luster!
Share
▎Why does pure silver turn black?
925 sterling silver contains 7.5% copper. When it comes into contact with sulfides in the air, it will produce silver sulfide (black oxide). This is normal and does not mean that the quality is poor!
5 cleaning methods
-
Baking soda + aluminum foil
-
Add hot water + 1 spoon of baking soda + salt, put in aluminum foil, soak for 5-10 minutes, the oxide layer will fall off automatically.
-
-
Special silver cleaning cloth
-
Gently rub the darkened area for immediate results (suitable for minor oxidation).
-
-
Toothpaste cleaning method
-
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush dipped in toothpaste to brush gently, rinse and wipe dry (avoid toothpaste containing particles).
-
-
Commercial silver cleaning water
-
Fast and effective, but not suitable for frequent use (may corrode the coating).

Avoid contact with perfume, hot springs and sea water.

▎ Extra attention for gold-plated models

Avoid rubbing the plating with a silver cleaning cloth.
